Trolling Bite is Back on Lake Erie – May 2nd, 2025 Lake Erie Fishing Report

Guess what, fishing fanatics? The trolling bite is back on at Lake Erie, and we couldn't be more fired up! After a solid stretch of jigging (which was a blast, don't get us wrong), it feels amazing to fire up the trolling gear again. There's just something electric about setting up a full spread of 14 rods- like a suspenseful game show on the water. Place your bets: which rod is gonna pop first? Spoiler alert: lately, we haven't even had time to get all 14 in the water before the first walleye smashes a lure!

Hot Fishing Locations

The last couple of days have been pure gold out on the lake, especially just east of Bolles Harbor. We did a little scouting until we found that perfect patch of muddy water- exactly where the fish have been stacking up. The fish finder lit up with promising marks, and with water temps hovering around 60°F, everything lined up just right for a bite bonanza. 17-22 feet of water held active marks and produced fish.

Proven Tactics & Equipment

If you're heading out, here's what's been working like magic: we're running Bandits on 30- and 60-foot leads. The go-to colors? Good ol' white and purple- those fish just can't resist. Our trolling speed sweet spot has been about 2.2 mph. It's fast enough to dodge the pesky silvers and white perch but perfect for tempting those hungry walleyes into striking.

Recent Catches

And speaking of walleyes… they're showing up in solid numbers and classic early May size. Most of our catches have been in the 2-3 lb range, but we've also netted a few chunky ones tipping the scales at 4 to 6 lbs. Not a bad haul at all!

Weather Outlook

Of course, there's a little twist- the heavy North East wind is planning to crash the party over the next couple of days, which could churn things up again. But hey, that's just Lake Erie keeping us on our toes.
