Erie Gold Rush: Walleye Everywhere! - June 16th 2025, Lake Erie Fishing Report

This week's fishing crew made the trip down from Northern Michigan – specifically the northern Lower Peninsula – and let's just say, they brought some good vibes with them! This was our second year fishing with this awesome group, and this trip had a special bonus: we got to celebrate Doug's dad's 90th birthday (the day after, technically – but hey, close enough for a party on the water 🎉).

90 Years Young: Birthday Celebrations on Lake Erie
And what better way to celebrate 90 years of life than chasing walleye on Lake Erie? Cake is great, but walleye in the cooler? Chef's kiss.
Challenging East Winds Turn Into Walleye Gold
Now, we didn't exactly pull up and drop lines into a walleye frenzy. The East winds have been relentless lately, and if you're not familiar with Lake Erie's attitude – those winds blow across the whole width of the lake and by the time they reach the western basin near Bolles Harbor, it's like fishing in a washing machine full of chocolate milk. Mud lines everywhere, scattered fish, and a lot of head scratching.
2025 Season Pattern: Adapting to Tough Conditions
It's been a theme this 2025 season: winds whipping things up, fish on the move, and walleye showing off their superpowers – because apparently, they teleport now?
But we didn't let that stop us. After a bit of experimentation (and maybe some stubbornness), we figured out the pattern. A slow start turned into a full-blown walleye purge, rods popping, cooler filling and fist bumps. It was pure magic.
Creating Memories That Last a Lifetime
This crew fished hard, laughed harder, and made the kind of memories that last longer than any birthday card. We already can't wait to get them back on the boat next season!
